Collaborative Ways Forward was founded in late Spring 2016 and was launched in July 2016 in the Galway City Museum. The aim of the group was to establish collaborations and co operatives and was also motivated by the need for environmental sustainability.

The founding members were members of other Collaborative Organisations:

  • Transition Galway
  • Third Space Galway
  • An Ait Eile
  • The Peer to Peer Foundation (International)

The inaugural meeting grouped was attended by about 100 people who were pooled together into areas of interest such as Food, Housing, Energy, Culture.

Additional events included a Potlatch picnic event in July 2016, Culture night in Sept 2016, running several Convergence Festival events in October 2016 and again in October 2017.

The group also is linked to a number of other Collaborative groups both in Ireland and abroad through Cultivate which is based at the Cloughjordan Ecovillage and helped to found Post Carbon Galway.

More recently the group is moving into projects in food and energy and is linked to a Co Operative Housing Initiative.
